Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in the RGV

Natalie Garza is not just a name in the bustling community of Mission; she is the driving force behind Con Ganas Mija, a network designed to uplift women entrepreneurs throughout the Rio Grande Valley (RGV). Launched in early 2024, her storefront on 214 E. Tom Landry Street has become a vibrant hub where creativity meets commerce. Here, women can not only showcase their products, like handmade jewelry and unique dishware, but also find camaraderie and support through regular "mija meetups" that focus on networking, learning, and celebrating their successes.

Recognizing Untapped Potential

In a region often overshadowed by larger urban centers, Garza’s initiative shines a spotlight on the countless talented women running micro businesses. “There are so many women doing amazing things and they don’t get any recognition,” she remarks, underscoring the need for visibility. The term "mija," a term of endearment in Spanish, is a nod to the nurturing environment Garza fosters, ensuring that all her participants feel valued and empowered.

The Importance of Perspective in Business

Garza brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles in marketing with well-known brands. She emphasizes the importance of adopting a customer-first approach. "A business owner will often look at things strictly from a profit standpoint, but we help them see things from a customer perspective," she says. This shift in outlook is crucial for these women to not only grow their businesses but to thrive in a competitive market.

Support that Makes a Difference

With the recent support of a $10,000 grant from the Mission Economic Development Corporation, Garza is able to expand her reach and enhance the resources available to her network. This funding is more than financial assistance; it acts as validation for the hardworking women who may have felt unseen in their entrepreneurial journeys.

Join the Movement

The spirit of community in the RGV is alive and well, driven by inspirational leaders like Natalie Garza. Whether you’re a burgeoning entrepreneur or an established business owner, there is a place for you in the Con Ganas Mija network. With opportunities for collaboration and support, the time to embrace this growing movement is now. As Garza often says, with ganas, anything is possible!
